The student body at German universities is international. The students' different backgrounds and the different teaching and learning cultures often cause tensions which can make learning together more difficult.
The orientation training will help you to get used to everyday life in Germany together and to successfully manage your studies. The workshop gives you the opportunity to chat with German and international students and to learn what might help in finding your way around university and everyday life and where problems could occur. The workshop leader will assist you in organising yourself and in finding explanations as to why Germans are the way they are and why international students are the way they are. You will learn what values are important in the respective cultures and why different ideas can lead to misunderstandings. Working together, problems will be discussed jointly and solution strategies developed. Various cultural situations such as how to deal with time and expectations in a university context will be discussed and explained.
