Studienkolleg G Course

Objectives:

The G courses at the Studienkolleg Darmstadt are intended to provide an introduction to academic methods and language and to prepare students for degree courses in the arts. In addition to teaching specialist knowledge, the teaching is therefore focused on introducing students to and providing training in academic working methods and techniques which should help them to succeed independently in their studies. The students are introduced to the types of academic work used at German universities, i.e. should become familiar with lectures, exercises, group and individual work.

The goals of the classes:

  • Promoting general and specialist language skills
  • Promoting the ability to work together with other students in a group
  • Promoting abstraction skills
  • Training students to form opinions and make judgements

These aspects are therefore particularly important in the introductory course in academic principles and language, as well as working with academic texts.

The students should learn to hold presentations and take examinations. Narrating, classifying and evaluating academic texts and working with academic theories and explanatory models is intended to allow students to transfer to German universities as easily as possible.

Compulsory attendance

The students at the Studienkolleg are required to take part in all classes regularly and complete all final course examinations or projects by the deadlines specified. A doctor's note must be submitted promptly in the event of illness.

Exemption from German courses

Students at the Studienkolleg who have already completed the certificate Deutsche Sprachprüfung für den Hochschulzugang for international students (DSH-2) or an equivalent examination will be exempted from participation in the course German as a Foreign Language (DaF) and from the German examination after submitting a request, as long as they have completed the Feststellungsprüfung for the T course.
